Prairie Storm Minor Hockey Association (PSMHA) Board of Directors is extremely pleased to announce George Pyne as the Peewee AA Head Coach for the 2017/2018 hockey season. George has been involved in the game of hockey in some capacity for more than 40 years including director positions with both the Weyburn Minor Hockey Association and PSMHA prior to which he served on the Recreational Board in Fort Qu’Appelle. George was involved in the inception of the Fort Knox Junior B Hockey Club and has coached multiple teams from Initiation level to Junior B. George has assisted the Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA) committees with skill development, evaluations and coach mentoring programs. Additionally, George has been associated with Western Prospects Hockey Development since 2001 and the Fire on Ice Development group for 7 years prior to that.
In addition to an extremely impressive coaching career, George has been involved in player evaluations, development of hockey camps and schools and has experience at both the provincial and national level. PSMHA is very excited and fortunate to have George returning as the Peewee AA coach and generally as a coach within our Association.
In the past 25 years I have been fortunate enough to have been given opportunities to coach almost every age group at many different levels. Over this time I have learned that adapting to the continuous evolution of the game and being able to read and understand each player is essential to their development no matter the age. The game needs to be challenging and full of fun, combined they are a recipe for success.
PeeWee is a very fun age due to the fact that kids are starting to find their identities which requires positive leadership and continuous focus on strong morals by the coaching staff. You have the opportunity not only to develop hockey skills but to assist these young people experience life lessons geared towards team play, family atmosphere, hard work and understanding the importance of brothership.
There are few things more satisfying than past players and parents alike approaching you, engaging in conversation like no time had passed.
Coaching really is a privilege …
